Truck Routes
to WIC Retail Locations in Tacoma, WA
In this analysis, the Network Analyst tools in ArcMap were used to calculate the most effective route between the 17 WIC retailers in the City of Tacoma. The route symbolizes the fastest route a delivery truck could take to drop off produce at each of the different WIC retail locations.
WIC retail locations are numbered and colored red, and the delivery route is colored blue. City streets are shown in grey.

Walk Times to WIC Retail Locations
This image represents the locations of WIC retailers, the areas within specified walking distances from the WIC retailers, and the system of roads in the City of Tacoma. The Network Analysis extension in ArcMap was utilized to calculate walking time service areas.
Gray lines represent the roads in Tacoma, and black squares represent the 17 WIC retailers. Areas within a 5 minute walk are displayed in tan, while areas within a 10 minute walk are shown in red. (Areas with less than a 1 minute walk were also analyzed, but are not shown in this image as they are covered by the squares that symbolize the WIC retailers.) Walk times are based on the roadway layer and an average walking speed of 3 miles per hour.

Drive Times
This image was created using ArcMap's Network Analysis extension. The map displays fire stations in Tacoma and the areas within one, five, and ten minutes’ drive time.
Fire stations are symbolized as black triangles. The light tan polygons are the areas accessible by a 1 minute drive or less. The areas shaded medium brown are within a 5 minute drive from a fire station, and the red areas are within a 10 minute drive. Grey lines represent the system of roads in the city.
